Roasting your own

Dear Wendyl, on April in the Afternoon on Sky’s Living Channel, you talked about roasting green coffee beans. I’d like to try it but my local Trade Aid store, where you said you bought yours, doesn’t have them. Do you know where I can get hold of any? *

Dear Coffee Lover, Yes, I’ve been told some Trade Aid stores don’t stock them. You can find them on Trade oe if you search “green coffee”, but we get ours online at www.globalcoffee.co.nz and it works out a lot cheaper than buying roasted ones from the supermarket. For those who missed the show, simply roast on a medium-high heat in a large frying pan, tossing beans constantly for even cooking. When they start to smoke, you know you’re there.

It usually takes about 15 minutes. We let ours smoke until they are really black and shiny, which shows they’re releasing their oils. Cool quickly on a paper towel and you’re done. Your kitchen will smell heavenly for the rest of the day.
