What happens in season one of Nine Perfect Strangers?
Like Kidman’s hit series Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers is based on a novel by New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty.
The story takes place in the fictional Californian town of Cabrillo. Masha invites nine guests to stay at Tranquillum (which, in real life, is the luxurious Soma retreat in Byron Bay), all burdened by struggles like grief, insecurity and romantic woes.
Desperate for transformation, they are slow to realise Masha’s methods include micro-dosing them with psychoactive drugs. A highly unsettling experience that’s supposed to heal them, the ordeal leaves them questioning everything.
What happens in season two of Nine Perfect Strangers?

The story unfolds at a “transformational wellness retreat” in the Austrian Alps where Masha “helps” a new group of nine strangers confront their darkest secrets, pushing them to their limits.
Given Kidman’s talent for delivering layered, complex performances, we can only imagine the twists Masha will bring this time around.
Who is in the cast of Nine Perfect Strangers?
Alongside Kidman, season one’s ensemble cast included American actress Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, The Little Mermaid) as novelist Frances Welly, Australian actress Asher Keddie (Offspring) as mother Heather Marconi mourning the death of her son, and Samara Weaving (Home and Away) as social media influencer Jessica Chandler.
Season two promises more outstanding performances from Henry Golding (A Simple Favour, Crazy Rich Asians), Mark Strong (Cruella) and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus, The Last of Us).
