What is Good American Family about?
There’s a chance you haven’t heard of the story of Natalia Grace. She was a young Ukrainian-born girl with a rare form of dwarfism (spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita) who was adopted by the Barnetts, an American family in 2010. The adoption case has come under intense scrutiny, and was the topic of a documentary series, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace.
As the Barnetts begin to raise Natalia alongside their three biological children, they claim to have doubts about her age and background. They claim to slowly suspect she may not be who she says she is. Does this sound a lot like a certain movie? Well, according to The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, the Barnetts were influenced by the 2009 movie Orphan.
We won’t reveal any more spoilers ahead of the show, which is reportedly told from multiple points of view and explores issues of perspective, bias, and trauma.
Who stars in Good American Family?
If you watched the trailer and said “It’s Meredith Grey!” you’re correct. This is Ellen Pompeo’s first big post-Grey’s Anatomy role. It’ll be hard for us to see her as anything but the doctor! The series also stars Mark Duplass and Imogen Reid.
