“I have a friend currently battling a rare form of blood cancer in Christchurch and watching the support she is receiving from LBC is amazing,” says Lana. “It really gave me the nudge I need to get the training for this event done!”

The broadcaster is the captain of Lana’s Legends – a team who are all tackling a 51-floor climb for the charity’s Step Up Challenge. Lana’s already raised $10,000, which is lucky because she signed up to carry an extra 100kg and, with each $1000 raised, 10kg comes out of her backpack.

“I did some training recently with 10kg extra weight and it was really hard!” Lana, 36, admits. “I just about fainted after 40 floors, so I am really pumped that everyone has rallied together to help take it off my back! I appreciate every last cent!

She’s taking the preparation for the climb very seriously.

“In Christchurch, we have the famous pipeline track in the Port Hills, with over 1000 steps and 270 vertical metres. I’ve been doing this five times a week and now that the event is getting closer, I have added a weighted vest!”
